ENTITLEMENT: Pre-recorded
This sermon exposes entitlement and self-centeredness as a spiritual blind spot that distorts how we see ourselves, others, and Jesus. Using cultural examples, personal self-tests, and the story of James and John, the message shows how easily people justify selfish behavior and expect special treatment when life doesn’t go their way.
In Mark 10, Jesus predicts His suffering and death, yet James and John respond with a self-serving request for positions of power and glory. Their blindness reflects a worldly definition of greatness—status, privilege, and authority. Jesus corrects them by redefining greatness as servanthood, teaching that true leadership is not about being served but about serving others.
Jesus contrasts the world’s abuse of power with His kingdom values, declaring that those who want to be great must become servants and slaves to others. He culminates this teaching with Mark 10:45, explaining that even He came not to be served, but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many.
The sermon calls believers to examine their hearts, reject arrogant entitlement, and grow out of spiritual immaturity by choosing selflessness over selfishness. Following Jesus means embracing humility, service, and sacrifice—because that is the path Jesus Himself chose.
